Water Lecture: All about water - quality

In advance to the World Water Day, GWSP organized a Panel Discussion on Wednesday, March 17th. Within this session of the Water Lecture Series, Prof. Martin Exner (Institute for Hygiene and Public Health of the University of Bonn), Franz Marré (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Head of Department for Water, Energy and Urban Planning), Neysa Setiadi (UNU-EHS, Research Associate) and Prof. Joachim von Braun (ZEF) as panelists were dicussing the "World Water Day 2010: All about water- quality". The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Janos J. Bogardi Executive Officer of GWSP. Having a lot of expertise and different perspectives brought together in the Panel, this session attracted a broad audience of more than 80 scientists, students and policy makers.

The panelists highlighted the water quality challenges in urban context in developing and developed countries, with regard to food security and human health impacts of deteriorating water quality as well as the role of development cooperation to reach the water related millennium development goals. Monitoring and the involvement of stakeholders were highlighted as essential steps to secure good water quality in the future.
